Gluten Free Candy for Valentine’s Day

If you’re like me, you really feel for the kids in class who have allergies and food sensitivities when it comes to class parties. My daughter usually doesn’t even tell me anymore if there was a party. It doesn’t seem to bother her that she can’t eat what the other kids are eating but it does bother me.  I really wish she could just enjoy fitting in for a bit, if that makes sense. She can’t eat gluten, any, not even a trace, and she can’t have dairy. This limits what she can eat tremendously but thankfully there are lots of food options if we want to pump her full of sugar and processed foods.

Gluten Free Valentine's Day Candy options

Gluten Free Valentine’s Candy

  • M & M candies (except pretzel varieties)
  • Tootsie Rolls
  • Hershey’s Kisses (only plain milk chocolate)
  • Dove Heart Promises (I love these)
  • Peeps Valentine treats
  • Plus all those listed below

Gluten Free/Dairy Free Valentine’s Candy

  • Jelly Belly jelly beans
  • Smarties Valentine Hearts
  • Sweethearts from Necco
  • Pez Valentine’s Candy

Um, that’s about it. Seriously. I did find an interesting Natural Candy Store that has a decent offering of gluten free/casein free candy, if you’re interested. I’ve never ordered from there.

Conversation Hearts are NOT gluten free.

For a longer gluten free candy list check out this about.com list. As with anything related to allergies and medical advice, please do your own research as well. Companies sometimes change their ingredient lists so stay on top of what’s in what you eat!

My niece is gluten & celiac and I feel horrible sending her brother treats that I use to send to the both of them and yet she doesn’t flinch getting her Necco’s!
    Thank you for sharing these!

Always nice to meet a new gluten-free friend! Very timely list, but to clarify about the “conversation hearts,” the ones from Necco are GF, but , those from Brachs & Mayfair are apparently not.
As if it could get more confusing, right?
Anyway, happy Vday to you and your sweet GF daughter!

Oh, good point! I guess I had no idea the Necco ones were conversation hearts. I’m not well versed in candy =)
