The never ending piles of fabric....

I sewed for baby a bit this week. Sticking to the De-Stash Challenge I used only what I had.

I reaffirmed my distaste for sewing satin. But really, what baby doesn't love satin?

I made swaddle blankets by simply serging the edges of a giant flannel square.

I made over our very used burp cloths.

I made a couple changing pad covers using Prudent Baby's tutorial.

My mom says a brown changing pad cover is a bad idea. She may be right!

I used Cluck, Cluck, Sew's tutorial for the car seat cover she so aptly calls the Greeter Deterrent.

I bought this baby flannel 5 or 6 months ago for around $1.50/yard. 4 yards has gone a long way. I've used it for a couple other projects this week as well.

All this sewing and barely a dent in my stash! I'll share more of this week's projects in the coming weeks.

Your De-stash Challenge Progress

Photobucket

I know many of you have taken the Great De-Stash Challenge along with me! So, what have you been making? Send in your pictures or link up below! I'd love to see!

I've been making tons and tons of clothes and my fabric cabinet still looks the same!! There's a lot of work left to do! Here's a little taste of what I've been up to for the last 3 weeks!

Not a bad start, right?? That's nearly all of it. Nearly =) What do I have in store next? PANTS. My girl needs pants for school. Pants with zippers! I'm also starting to make a few things from Sewing Clothes Kids Love (which I'm loving). More on those later...

Oh, and yes, that is a picture of my rear end. Yep. That's me. Anyone want a tutorial for that maternity skirt? By the way, it is actually a skort. (because mamas often have to go down slides and crawl across playground bridges too) And it is super comfortable. I wear it nearly daily. I'm making a second as we speak.

So, what are you making??

The rules for this link:

1. You must take the Great DeStash Challenge! No more buying fabric, use what you have! If you have a blog, post the button on your site.

2. These must be things you've made since you took the challenge!!

3. Posts about your stash (and this challenge) are totally acceptable! I love before and after photos so go ahead and show us your before photo.

Step 1: Organizing

Photobucket

As a first step to my commitment for The GREAT De-Stash Challenge I've organized my stash. OH MY. Let's just see what I did, shall we?

First: removed fabric from shelves, counters, crevices, etc. REFOLDED FOR HOURS.

Second: organized by type/color/style/etc.

Take a peek...

Stash 1
But that's not all...

Stash 2
And a bit more up here...

Stash 3
And I wish I could say that was all. No pics but here's what else I have:

  • 2 tubs of items to repurpose
  • 2 tubs of baby flannel & minky
  • 1 tub fleece
  • 1 tub scraps and random fabrics

That's right. Too much fabric. Thus, the challenge. So, here is the count so you can keep me accountable! Let's watch it shrink, shall we? I'll be using my fabric journal to help!

How are you doing with the challenge?

The GREAT De-Stash Challenge

I've been buying a lot of fabric lately. I have plans for all of it. Truly, I do. The problem is, I'll never get around to completing those projects if I keep buying more fabric for new projects. So, I have decided to declare a state of emergency and start The GREAT De-Stash Challenge.

Destash challenge 425
The challenge:

1. Organize the stash. You'll keep buying fabric if you don't really know what you already have.

2. Use only fabrics from your stash or your repurpose pile.

3. Decide the length of time or the amount of pile you'd like to reduce.

I'm choosing to use 50% of my stash before buying more fabric. That's A LOT of fabric. I mean, A LOT. This is going to be difficult!

Care to join me? Do you complain about your fabric buying habits but continue to buy more? Maybe it's time to start using what you have! Before you head to the store for that "one piece" you need to complete a project, maybe you'll see that you have something in your stash that will complete the job just fine! If you'd like to take the challenge just leave me a comment! I've made some buttons if you'd like to post about it on your blog. Feel free to grab one!
